A Comparison of The New Launch of Samsung, Galaxy S8/S8+ vs Galaxy S7



The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus have finally been announced. They will succeed the current Galaxy S7 and S7 edge and based on our first impressions, they will both be great devices. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus bring a few cosmetic changes to the Galaxy S7. Very slim bezels, a home button built into the lower section of the displays and a dedicated side-button for launching the Bixby AI system are all present on the new devices, as is a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Here is a brief comparison of the specs of the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ to the Galaxy S7 to see how they compare and what the new smartphones bring to fill the huge shoes of the S7.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ has Octa-core, 10 nm improved processor while S7 has 14 nm processor.

S8 and S8+ have 8 megapixel autofocus, F1.7 aperture front camera while S7 has 5-megapixel, F1.7 aperture front camera.

S8 and S8+ have 64GB internal, microSD slot (up to 256GB) while S7 has 32GB/64GB, microSD slot (up to 256GB)

Software

Both S8 and S8+ use Android 7.0 Nougat while S7 has Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow which is upgradeable to Nougat.

Both have 3,000/3,500 mAh, fast wireless charging battery while S7 has 3,000/3,600 mAh, fast wireless charging battery.

Connectivity

S8 and S8+ have 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, USB Type-C and 3.5mm headphone jack connectivity while S7 has 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, microUSB 2.0, 3.5mm headphone jack connectivity.

Dimensions 

In terms of physical dimensions, the S8 measures 148.9 x 68.1 x 8mm and weighs 155g, while the S8 Plus measures 159.5 x 73.4 x 8.1mm and hits the scales at 173g. The S7 measures 150.9 x 72.6 x 7.7mm and hits the scales at 157g.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus feature an improved design over the S7, along with a larger displays, better hardware and a few camera and software enhancements.

The Galaxy S8 costs £689, while the S8+ costs £779 however, making them more expensive than the £639 S7, which is still a fantastic phone. The new devices are better looking and faster, but they might not necessarily be the right choice for everyone, especially those on a budget.
