Weekend brings best time to view Perseids meteor shower-muddlex

An out-of-this-world show in the Kansas sky is at its most visible this weekend.

You'll be able to see a few meteors in the sky over the next few nights, but the Perseids meteor shower peaks Sunday night. At this point, you should be able to see one to two meteors per minute when you look to the northeast after midnight.

Unfortunately, it's expected to be mostly cloudy for most of us at that time. Although not during the peak, you should still be able to see some meteors in the sky all the way into the last week of August.

"You'll get a decent show as long as you're north of the equator," Dr. Bill Cooke with NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office tells CBS News of the weekend chances to see meteors. "As long as you have clear skies and you're away from the city, you should have a good show."
